So far we've read three chapters. Do these questions. On Wednesday, look forward to defense mechanisms!
Here are some questions for us to work on through chapters 1-3:
- Take a close look at the characteristics of Jack, Ralph, and Piggy. How do these three differ, how are they similar? Use your three column chart from the beginning of the unit to speculate and predict how these characters will operate a society on the island.
- Take a close look at the passage where Jack fails to kill the pig. As one of the more impulsive boys on the island, why is he struggling with this endeavor?
- Let's have a look at the "beastie" in the early chapters of the novel. How has this beast affected the boys on the island differently? Consider reactions from the younger and older boys.
- What are the two main goals the boys have on the island in the early chapters?
- Why do the boys belittle Piggy, despite the reasonable statements he makes?
- How has Simon differentiated himself from the others on the island?
