English 10 Adapted

For the morning class we have a workshop from 10:00 to 11:30.

Words are powerful. When we write, we can not underestimate using the right words. This week's workshop will focus on vocabulary and how you can build your personal word bank so you can write better. Again, bring your writing assignments so that you can work on it. This will be the last workshop for summer school so I hope you can make it. I am looking forward to seeing you all.

Animal Farm: Final Reflection / Project Options
The following are a list of possible lessons that one might learn from Animal Farm:

  1. Life is unfair; don’t expect it to be otherwise.
  2. Be careful whom you trust.
  3. Choose your friends wisely.
  4. Question authority and think for yourself: don’t be like the sheep.
  5. Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.
  6. Don’t believe everything you read or are told.
  7. All people are equal, but some people are more equal than others.
  8. Ignorance is not always bliss.
  9. Educate yourself: knowledge is power.
  10. Stand up for your friends and for those in trouble: don’t be a passive bystander.
  11. Respect everyone’s opinion.
  12. Don’t be a backstabber.
  13. Be grateful for the freedoms you enjoy.
Your project should show at least one of these themes.

Project Options
1.      Write a memoir for one of the characters. A memoir is like a diary. The character would be thinking about their past choices as they write a memoir. They might feel pride about what happened in the past, or shame. It should show some of the conflicts that character was going through during the story. (at least 2 pages)
2.      Draw a cartoon strip for an important chapter in the novel; it should be at least 8 panels. Use colour. No “stick men” or “stick animals”.

Project Criteria
A)    Pre-write.  Plan out your ideas before beginning: brainstorm, outline….
B)    Be sure to give your project a clear title.

Your project should:
  1. Show an understanding of Animal Farm.
  2. Follow specific requirements for the choice.
  3. Check your grammar!
  4. If you are writing the memoir, you must indent your paragraphs.
